Our Apprenticeships involve a fair amount of academic work. For that reason, we'll need you to have already achieved a certain level in your education:

- Scottish Standard (Grades 1-3) in Maths, English, Physics or Chemistry or a technical subject
- Scottish Intermediate 1 (Band A) Maths, English, Physics or Chemistry or a technical subject
- Scottish Intermediate 2 (Band A-C) Maths, English, Physics or Chemistry or a technical subject or
- National 5 (Grade A-C) in Mathematics, English, a relevant Science related subject, such as Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Science OR a relevant technical subject such as Design & Manufacture, Design & Technology, Practical Metal Working Skills, Graphic Communication, plus one other National 5 Qualification.
- In Scotland you will also need to have a relevant Science/Technical subject such as Physics, Higher Engineering Science, Higher Design and Manufacture and Maths qualification all at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent
Enthusiasm for the theoretical side of engineering
Beyond your academic qualifications, we'll be looking for evidence that you're genuinely interested in and enthusiastic about developing a career in your chosen area.
For instance, we'd like to hear about how you're fascinated with how things work. In the Technical Apprenticeship you'll be working a lot with computers, investigating new ways of doing things and solving intricate technical problems. We'd love to hear about how you enjoy tinkering with cars, bicycles or motorbikes; or about an engineering project you've done at school; or an engineering club you've been involved with. Whatever it is, we need to know you've thought things through and are fairly sure that this career is right for you.
Team skills, and good time management
We're also very keen to take on people who love working as a team. Because, despite the size of our company, we all enjoy working with other people. So, we'll be interested in how you've worked in a group, whether that's at school, with your family, in a sports team, at work, in voluntary organisations, such as the Guides, Scouts or Cadets, or as part of religious or community activities. You'll also need to be good at organising your time, as you'll need to make time for studying, as well as actually getting on and doing your job.
