Next-generation propulsion systems

Rolls-Royce and Bell have teamed to design an optimized propulsion system for the U.S. Army Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program. The propulsion system, powered by the proven AE 1107 engine, provides an efficient end-to-end solution for the FLRAA platform. Rolls-Royce will also provide an advanced Infrared Suppression System to deliver greater range and enhanced survivability to the Army. Through early collaboration on the system from the inlet to the suppressor, Bell and Rolls-Royce will deliver a low-risk and reliable integrated propulsion system for Army modernization.

Purpose-built to revolutionize the reach and effectiveness of each mission while offering unmatched maneuverability, superior range, reduced downtime and elevated mission safety. With over twice the speed and range of current weapons systems, the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) is the proven long-range maneuver solution, flying more than 300 knots and achieving more than 200 hours of test flights.

Superior Capability Demands Propulsion Excellence

  • Developed around the well-proven, highly-regarded AE family core, the FLRAA will be powered by two Rolls-Royce AE 1107F engines.
  • The AE engine family has garnered over 85 million flight hours, demonstrating dependable power across a number of military aircraft, such as C-130Js, V-22s, Global Hawks and more; in service with the U.S. Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and NASA.
  • AE engines share a common engine core and are about 80 percent common in their manufacture. The result is a powerful and reliable engine, produced cost-effectively on one engine assembly line at the Rolls-Royce facility in Indianapolis. To date, we have delivered more than 7,500 AE engines for a variety of platforms.
