We put the vertical lift in the F-35B Lightning II. Our LiftSystem® is the only vertical lift technology for fighter jets in production in the world.

The unrivalled performance of the LiftSystem comes in part from the latest in digital control and fan system technology to deliver responsive, precise and powerful short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) capability with minimal impact on total airframe weight.

The system is a descendant of the Pegasus engine, comprised of the Rolls‑Royce LiftFan®, Driveshaft, 3 Bearing Swivel Module (3BSM) and Roll Posts. Rolls‑Royce has been the industry leader in short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) technology for 60 years.

One of a kind vertical lift technology

Our unique LiftFan is:

  • Capable of delivering 20,000lbf cold thrust
  • Has a 50 inch diameter 2-stage counter-rotating fan with world leading hollow bladed disk technology
  • Features a thrust vectoring variable area vane box nozzle

The Driveshaft & Clutch delivers:

  • Up to 29,000 shaft horsepower from the main engine to the LiftFan
  • This provides the conversion needed to take fighter jets from conventional flight to STOVL capabilities

Some of the features:

  • Direct 1,950lbf of bypass thrust from main engine
  • Hydraulically actuated nozzles during STOVL operations
  • Provide excellent aircraft roll control and stability

Engine Repair Management  

We manage, overhaul and repair your engine and line replaceable units (LRUs).

Engine Repair Management

Under an ERM support contract:

  • We manage your engine and line replaceable units (LRUs) overhaul and repair, acting as your single point of contact. Using our extensive overhaul and repair experience, we will coordinate the complete repair process. We ensure that all overhaul and repair activities are completed to Rolls-Royce quality standards, efficiently and cost effectively.
  • We coordinate shipping logistics to and from our maintenance facility, providing work scope, optimising configuration and reliability, whilst managing turn-time performance and maintenance facility quality.

FSRs provide advice to keep your engine on wing longer, reducing costs.

Field Service Representatives

Deployed and visiting, FSRs are committed to keeping your engine on wing longer.

Our global team of FSRs can be contracted either on a full or part time basis, which means you can have a dedicated FSR at your location or take advantage of our visiting FSR service. This gives you immediate access to our expertise to resolve queries quickly and a direct link to our team of specialists.
