Testbed facilities

Future-proofing our post Covid-19 world

In a post Covid-19 world, we will seek to connect again but do so sustainably. Key to that will be gas turbines with new levels of efficiency and new propulsion technologies. World-class testing facilities like Testbed 80, Testbed 108 or our Power Gearbox Test Centre support our journey to net zero.

Smart thinking
Derby, UK
Testbed 80 is the world’s largest and smartest indoor aero engine testbed. We can collect data from more than 10,000 different parameters on an engine, using an intricate web of sensors that detect even the tiniest vibrations at a rate of up to 200,000 samples per second. And that data helps us understand our engines and improve them.

On a variety of engines and fuels
Versatility is a hallmark of Testbed 80. It is ready to handle engines up to 155klbf thrust – that’s enough power to launch a Boeing 747 with one (huge) engine. It can run engines on sustainable aviation fuel and is equipped with a 140,000 litre fuel tank, enough fuel to fill up your car 3000 times.
