Rolls-Royce Sustainability

Helping the world do things tomorrow that cannot be done today and playing our part in the energy transition for a more sustainable world

At Rolls-Royce, we are a force for progress; powering, protecting, and connecting people everywhere.

Progress means moving forward sustainably – balancing economic, environmental and social and ethical needs and working to understand the impact our business has on the world around us, and the impact the world has on our business.

This understanding is a vital part of our strategy, the decisions we make and how we'll protect our business for tomorrow.

We’re focussed on executing pragmatic actions to deliver meaningful progress and ensure we are playing our part in the energy transition, being socially responsible and operating ethically.

Our impact

We recognise that human behaviour is increasing greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere. At the same time, increasing global populations and wealth drive the demand for power and mobility.

As a leading power systems provider, we have a fundamental role in meeting the environmental and societal opportunities and challenges that the world faces.

We are determined to use our position, capabilities and expertise as a global power group to help create a resilient, inclusive, low carbon future and support the energy transition for the sectors we serve.

We are committed to:

  • Playing our part in the energy transition – helping the world do things tomorrow that cannot be done today.

We monitor our progress in moving forward sustainably by assessing our compliance with regulations, ensuring delivery against our targets and referring to external standards and ratings.

  • Operating ethically – living our behaviours in accordance with our Group policies.
  • Being socially responsible – creating a positive impact for our people and stakeholders.

A lower carbon business

We are committed to reaching net zero by 2050 within our own operations and supporting the achievement of net zero within the industries in which we operate.

Our principles help to guide us

To help guide us through the energy transition, we've developed a simple set of sustainability principles, based on our values and behaviours:

  • Understanding and minimising our impact on the environment, particularly in the context of the energy transition;
  • Seeking opportunities to adopt circular business practices to reduce demand for virgin materials, safeguarding supply and further reducing our impacts;
  • Making a positive contribution to the communities within which we operate;
  • Acting with Integrity and considering the potential and actual ethical implications of all business decisions;
  • Ensuring Zero Harm to the people who work for or with us and give them the best opportunity to be at their best;
  • Reporting and communicating with our key stakeholders transparently and honestly.

Climate-related risks and opportunities

We continue to build our understanding of climate-related risks and opportunities to ensure we are strategically prepared for a climate-impacted future and able to seize commercial opportunities that arise from the energy transition.

The assessment and management of climate-related risk and opportunity is an integral part of our enterprise risk management process. In every instance, our management of climate-related risks and opportunities is done in conjunction with consideration of the organisation’s broader goals and objectives as part of our integrated risk management process.

We’ve also used scenario planning techniques to explore the resilience of our business model and strategy in the context of future climate change and the transition to a low-carbon global economy.

Operating ethically

Who we are and how we behave matters.

High standards of ethical behaviour and compliance with laws and regulations are essential to protecting the reputation and long-term success of our business. We are committed to conducting our activities in a wholly ethical manner, free from any form of bribery or corruption.
