We believe excellent teaching is at the heart of an inspirational education system and have seen for ourselves the success within science teaching through inspirational science projects that have helped raise the profile of science within schools and at the same time help with teacher CPD. Maths is another key subject for our business; we are therefore pleased to announce that we are extending the Rolls-Royce Science Prize competition to include Maths. Science and Maths go hand in hand; within engineering each subject compliments each other. New for 2014, we will be looking for entries into the prize demonstrating that maths in integral to everyday work in particular to science. We will also be looking to reward excellence in maths teaching across the education system and support teacher CPD. Entries are welcomed by maths teachers through the IMA, NCETM and National Science Learning Centre in York.
We are pleased to announce this new element to the Rolls-Royce Science Prize is in partnership with the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).
The (IMA) is the UK's learned and professional society for mathematics and its applications. The IMA exists to support the advancement of mathematical knowledge and its applications, promote and enhance mathematical culture in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. It is the professional and learned society for qualified and practicing mathematicians, with a membership of around 5,000 comprising of mathematicians from all sectors. The (NCETM) aims to raise levels of achievement in maths, and to increase appreciation of the power and wonder of maths across the school, sixth form college and further education system ensuring that all teachers of maths from primary school teachers, and non-specialist maths teachers have easy access to high quality, evidence-based maths specific continuing professional development (CPD) at every point of their careers. The NCETM helps raise the professional status, and the professionalism, of all those engaged in the teaching of maths.
