Towing and escort winch systems for tugs
Rolls-Royce has a portfolio of towing and escort winches developed specifically for tug operations.

The quality, robust construction and flexibility of these winches have made them firm favourites with major tug operators around the world. Furthermore, the equipment from our towing winch portfolio is well suitable for icebreakers operating in arctic conditions as well as to any vessel suitable for emergency towing operation, like coastal and multi-purpose vessels.

Future vessels - Watch the video of the UT 540 OSV on YouTube

Rolls-Royce combines experience, the ability to innovate and state-of-the-art equipment to set the standard for the future of ship design and solve the challenges our customers face. At WBS we are showcasing one of our latest specialist designs the award winning UT 540 Wind Farm Support Vessel.

The UT 540 was developed specifically to support operations in shallow waters at offshore windfarms. The design has a high focus on seakeeping capabilities, station keeping performance, improved comfort and safety on board, and reduced fuel consumption.  As well as designing the vessel, Rolls-Royce supply the diesel electric main machinery, consisting of frequency controlled electric driven azimuth thrusters, super silent mounted transverse thrusters, DP2 dynamic positioning system, power electrical system, deck machinery, and the latest generation Acon automation and control system.

The first vessel was ordered in 2015 by Østensjø Rederi to serve as the base for wind turbine technicians while they perform maintenance on DONG Energy’s Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm, off the coast of Lincolnshire, UK. The company has ordered a second vessel to work on the Hornsea Project One wind farm off the coast of the UK.

We design complete solutions to provide measurable value where it matters most. Our approach reduces costs, maximises efficiency, minimises emissions and caps risk, delivering solutions that strike a perfect balance between performance, investment and ownerships costs, all backed by an international customer support network of over 1000 service engineers in 50+ locations.
