During this difficult time, we’re being invited to reflect and to take better care of ourselves.
“World Health Day can be an important day to reflect on your own health, have a conversation to reduce stigma associated with illnesses, and lead more people to seek support and treatment,” says Jade Camps-Douglas, our Head of Wellbeing.
“It’s a perfect opportunity to take stock of your health and focus on taking care of yourself such as eating a variety of foods, getting enough sleep, being active every day, and staying connected to family and friends. This year, maintaining our physical and mental wellbeing is especially crucial – don’t put your health on hold.”
Enabling self-help
Rolls-Royce is committed to supporting the wellbeing of our people and during this crisis, we recognise the additional stresses that everyone is under, which can undermine health. Our Health & Wellbeing Team have been sharing helpful tips and recommendations on a regular basis and colleagues are also sharing their ideas, practices and app or video reviews about home fitness, managing stress and staying well. We have just launched a new internal online community, “Our World Together” as a forum for everyone to uplift and support each other and stay connected, which has never been more important.
We also have a dedicated COVID microsite, which provides country-specific advice and supports people to take care of their health and wellbeing. We recommend everyone keeps practicing these healthy habits every day:
- Eat well: A healthy, balanced meal provides all the essential nutrients your body needs to stay healthy
- Be physically active: exercise releases endorphins in our brain which help to make us feel good.
- Getting enough sleep is crucial for just about every other aspect of your health.
- Maintain regular working hours: it’s important to switch-off at the end of the day.
- Stay connected with friends and family: Social interaction is good for the body and brain. If it’s been longer than 2 hours since you connected with someone, have a video call, with a colleague to bounce ideas around, or catch-up with a friend.
As many of us are experiencing social distancing, these simple actions may sometimes feel difficult to do, but if we see it as an opportunity to practice new habits, for many people the new normal represents a chance to re-set our approach to self-care. And with the growing sense of community in our world, there are always people willing to offer support, whether that’s via a helpline, a free online fitness class, a shared recipe, or simply words of encouragement. We hope you find the support and inspiration you need, and we wish everyone good health during this time.
