Striving for gold

Grégoire Michetti is a member of our Business Aviation team at the Rolls-Royce Centre of Excellence supporting Bombardier's Aircraft Completion Centre in Montreal, Canada. At WorldSkills he will compete against the best aircraft mechanics worldwide for the chance to win one of the prestigious WorldSkills medals.


Have you ever heard about a world championship of skills? This event is called ‘WorldSkills’, has been founded in 1950 and takes place every two years.

Today it is attracting over 1,600 competitors from more than 60 countries. At this event, young people from all corners of the globe gather together for the chance to win one of the prestigious medals in their chosen skill. There are competitions in 56 skills across a wide range of industries — from joinery to floristry; hairdressing to electronics; and aircraft maintenance to bakery. The competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from skills competitions that are held in WorldSkills Member countries and regions.

Grégoire Michetti, who is with Rolls-Royce since 2018 and currently working as a BR700 technician in Montreal, will be one of the members of Team Canada and is aiming for winning a gold medal at the 45th WorldSkills competition in Kazan, Russia, on August 22 – 27.

His colleagues at Rolls-Royce are very proud to have him on the team and to see him compete against the best aircraft mechanics in the world.

Facts about WorldSkills

Founded in 1950, WorldSkills shows how important skills education and training is for youth, industries and society by challenging young professionals around the world to become the best in the skill of their choice. Every two years, the WorldSkills Competition represents the best of international excellence in skilled trades and technologies. 
Young professionals (17-25 years of age) compete in timed modules of their respective trade and are marked on key points such as:
  • Quality of work
  • Completion
  • Communication and
  • Safety
The modules are created and judged by a combination of education professionals and industry experts.
