In the operation of today’s modern navies, unmanned surface and underwater vehicles are the way of the future and present a wide range of Launch and Recovery System (LARS) challenges.
Rolls Royce has a proven track record of delivering innovative-engineered solutions, which meet these design demands and protect the investments, which they handle. Some examples include LARS for the U.S. Naval Oceanographic’s ORCA USV, various AUV LARS for oceanographic institutions such as SCRIPPS and Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and a stern ramp system for offshore workboat deployments in 7-8 metre seas, technology that can be adapted to unmanned surface vehicles.
Some systems can be automated or semi-automated, removing some of the potential risks to personnel inherent in manual on-deck operations. Our shipboard naval sensor and unmanned vehicle handling systems can be adapted to USVs.
