LNG - Cruise and ferry
Good for the economy. Better for our environment. Natural Gas is the clear choice of fuel to power energy-efficient, cruise and passenger ferries. Rolls-Royce gas engines significantly reduce fuel costs and cut emissions to levels that comply with future environmental regulations.
Rolls-Royce has a proven track record of delivering marine gas propulsion systems to forward-thinking ship operators worldwide. Their investment will yield significant financial and environmental dividends for years to come. Now is a great time to chart a new course towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. Now is the time to switch to gas powered propulsion systems.
Better for the environment
Natural gas significantly reduces emissions of sulphur oxides, nitrous oxides, carbon dioxide, and particulates to levels that already meet International Maritime Organisation Tier III emissions regulations due to come into force in 2016.
Proven Technology
Around the world, more than 10 Rolls-Royce gas engines are currently in service or on order for Short Sea Shipping vessels, powering them as they transport cargo safely, economically, and with much lower emissions than conventionally-fuelled equivalents. Using Rolls-Royce gas engines is the simplest way to ensure compliance with ALL the forthcoming emission regulations.
Reduce Fuel Cost
Rolls-Royce gas engines have proven themselves to be the cleanest, most efficient piston engines on the market, boasting long intervals between overhaul and a high degree of reliability. With the price of LNG forecast to fall, the potential long-term savings on fuel expenditure alone are substantial.
Rolls-Royce Gas engine
Rolls-Royce gas engines boast world-class fuel efficiency in all operation modes and already meet IMO Tier III regulations, with exceptionally low emissions of NOx, CO2, SOx and particulates. They operate solely on gas but with a high gas quality tolerance, and have a load response similar to conventional diesel engines but with significantly reduced noise levels, reduced lube oil consumption and low maintenance costs. Engines are available for both Gas-Mechanical and Gas-Electric applications.
