Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day together with STEM partner Girlguiding

Celebrating #INWED20 together with STEM partner Girlguiding

We’ve launched 3 new STEM activity resources for Girl Guides in the UK to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day.

Each of the 3 new STEM activities we have launched are aimed at a different age group.

All three activities help girls and young women to see science and technology as the key to solving some of the world’s most urgent challenges, such as developing cleaner power solutions to reduce carbon emissions.  And, importantly, they encourage girls and young women to know that STEM, and developing world-changing technologies, is something they can aspire to be part of.

The new activities were co-created by Girlguiding and Rolls-Royce to support the Innovate Skills Builder – a series of badges girls and young women can achieve by challenging their creativity and STEM skills – which is sponsored by Rolls-Royce.

The new activities are accompanied by a blog featuring a number of our own young women talking about what inspired them to get into STEM, what they love about their current job and how it makes a difference. They also share some of the things that might surprise girls about working in a company like Rolls-Royce and offer advice for young women who are interested in pursuing a career in science and technology.

We’re working with Girlguiding to challenge stereotypes about working in science, technology, engineering and maths, and seek to inspire a new generation of young women into STEM industries. By supporting the Innovate Skills Builder badges, we are leading Girl Guides of all ages through a 6-staged series of activities focusing on STEM and creative skills.

Currently just 12 per cent of engineering jobs in the UK are filled by women and we’re committed to addressing that imbalance.
