There are 30,000 parts in a large civil aircraft engine. This one-million pound machine cuts engine components to size and is one of 80 making the workplace safer. The oil-based fluids used to lubricate the cutting process can pose a risk to health.

On the modern machines it’s a sealed so all those mists and cutting oils are contained inside the machine. And because of the extraction system and filters we’re able to make it a lot safer.”
Workers used to manually smooth rough edges, running the risk of developing ‘white finger’. The machine now does this job and it’s more efficient, helping to speed up the process.
