Rolls-Royce delivers 2,000th AE 2100D3 engine for USAF C-130J

The 2,000th Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 engine has rolled off the assembly line, and will power a new Lockheed Martin C-130J aircraft bound for Little Rock Air Force base in Arkansas.

The delivery represents an important milestone for the AE 2100D3, the exclusive powerplant on all Lockheed Martin C-130J and LM-100J aircraft.

Phil Burkholder, Rolls-Royce, President Defense Aerospace North America, said, “The Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 engine has proven to be dependable and efficient, and air crews tell us they really like the power and the automated control of the C-130J engines. The C-130J Super Hercules offers operators unmatched versatility, including 17 different mission configurations. The engines bring proven capability to these great aircraft.”

Lockheed Martin recently announced it had delivered the 400th C-130J Super Hercules to the US Air Force Special Operations Command. The US Air Force is the largest operator of C-130J aircraft, with additional C-130Js in operation with the US Marine Corps, US Coast Guard and the Air National Guard and Reserve, as well as operators around the world.

AE 2100D3 engines are produced at Rolls-Royce facilities in Indianapolis, US, where T56 engines were produced for legacy C-130 aircraft. The AE 2100 is a member of the Rolls-Royce AE engine family, which also includes the AE 1107C powering CV-22 and MV-22 Osprey, and AE 3007H powering the Air Force Global Hawk and US Navy Triton.

Rolls-Royce has delivered more than 6,500 AE engines of all variants, which have totalled more than 73 million engine flight hours in both military and commercial aircraft.
