Rolls-Royce has delivered the Trent XWB-97 engines to Airbus for the new A350-1000 that will soon join Qantas’ fleet in 2026 to support Ultra Long Range (ULR) operations, and marking a new chapter in global connectivity. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97, the Airbus A350-1000 enables Qantas to operate the world’s longest commercial flight, connecting Australia’s east coast non-stop to London and New York for the first time. The Trent XWB-97 has demonstrated dependable performance across global fleets and its industry leading fuel efficiency supports Qantas’ mission to reshape long-distance travel.

The Qantas project Sunrise mission involves extended periods of continuous operation exceeding 20 hours. The Trent XWB-97 is the ideal partner for the mission because of its proven reliability and durability across long haul journey. It provides the stable thrust, fuel efficiency, and operational consistency required for ULR flight. Its ability to deliver power with proven reliability is central to enabling these nonstop journeys.

The launch of Qantas’ A350-1000ULR service marks a new chapter in aviation. Distances that once required multiple stops can now be crossed directly, creating faster, simpler, and more seamless passenger journeys. Advanced Trent XWB-97 engine technology plays a crucial role in this transformation allowing airlines to operate flights that redefine the boundaries of long-haul travel and bring the world closer together.

Rolls-Royce is proud to be continuing its long history of powering Qantas’ long-haul aircraft. It began in 2018 when Qantas took delivery of its first Airbus A380 powered by the Trent 900. Qantas’ introduction of the A380 marked a major step forward enabling one-stop connectivity between its key routes such as Sydney and London. The next chapter arrives with the A350-1000 powered by Trent XWB-97 transforming that route into a reliable non-stop service. This transition from one-stop to non-stop represents a significant evolution in capability, underpinned by decades of collaboration and shared commitment between Qantas and Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce will remain the trusted partner in enabling the future of long-distance travel, powering flights that connect the world through resilient and proven technology.
