Built in Britain for Britain, the Boxer is one of the most advanced wheeled armoured vehicles in the world.
Rolls-Royce signed a deal with the MoD in 2022, to provide 523 engines for the Boxer project. The vehicles are powered by Rolls-Royce's state-of-the-art mtu 8V199 TE21 engine, which delivers an impressive 600kw of power and is assembled in East Grinstead, West Sussex. They are the first vehicles in the British Army to be equipped with this design, delivering 70kw more than previous variants.
Offering outstanding mobility and protection, all models are equipped with air conditioning for operation in extreme climates, as well as a Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) protection system to counter threats.
Modular by design, the Boxer programme stands to be a core component of the British Army's Land Industrial Strategy for years to come. With separate drive and mission modules, Army Engineers can apply the same hull and powertrain to different objectives. At present, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has purchased troop-carrying, ambulance, command, and specialist carrying Boxer variants.
Other major collaborators in Team Boxer UK include Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land and KNDS Deutschland. The project is overseen by the British Army, the National Armaments Director Group (NAD Group), Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), OCCAR, and the ARTEC consortium, while a network of British supply chain partners offers crucial support.
With other core manufacturing sites at facilities in Telford and Stockport, the Boxer supply chain spans the breadth of the UK and supports hundreds of high-skilled jobs.
