Series 2000 – powering progress with purpose

For over six generations, the mtu Series 2000 has set the benchmark in high-performance diesel engine technology.

Whether propelling luxury yachts, powering mining trucks, driving ferries or supplying critical energy to buildings and communities, this engine series delivers unmatched reliability, efficiency and adaptability.

Today, the Series 2000 is also helping to set a course for the energy transition thanks to sustainable fuel compatibility.

A legacy of versatility

The Series 2000 is designed for a wide range of demanding applications. Its proven reliability, power density and fuel performance mean our portfolio supports a variety of platforms and requirements.

In the marine sector, the Series 2000 ensures smooth and efficient propulsion for yachts and ferries, with power outputs ranging from 720 to 1,939 kW (966–2,600 bhp). The latest 12V 2000 M96Z model features increased displacement and reinforced components for enhanced durability and performance at sea.

Engineered for tomorrow

Engineered for tomorrow

Across Rolls-Royce, we are committed to enabling a smoother, cleaner energy transition through the use of our fuel-efficient combustion engines. The mtu Series 2000 plays a key role in that journey.

Select models are already approved to run on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a sustainable drop-in fuel that significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to conventional diesel. This allows customers to decarbonise their operations without modifying existing infrastructure.

The engine’s components have been optimised for durability and efficiency – steel pistons, upgraded turbochargers and reinforced crankcases all contribute to higher power density and longer service life.

Advanced combustion systems and intelligent engine management further reduce environmental impact, ensuring that the Series 2000 continues to deliver its signature performance while aligning with tomorrow’s energy standards.

Investment in innovation

Investment in innovation

With our new production facility in Lake Constance, Germany, we are investing in the future prospects of internal combustion engines.

The operationally advanced facility is designed to accelerate the assembly of our mtu Series 2000 engines as demand intensifies, enabling a production capacity of up to 2000 engines per year.

Built to lead

Whether navigating the open ocean, powering a remote mining site or keeping the lights on in a bustling city, the mtu Series 2000 is more than an engine – it’s a trusted partner in progress.

As we continue to drive innovation towards the energy transition, the Series 2000 remains a cornerstone of sustainable, high-performance propulsion and energy solutions.
