Rolls-Royce has a wealth of experience in Finland and has been working along-side Finnish industry and the Finnish Defence Forces for over 40 years. The Rolls-Royce Adour engine is in service with the Finnish Air Force Hawk trainer aircraft and strengthens our industrial collaboration with Finnish industry.
Clive Wills, Vice President for Rolls-Royce’s Defence business said, “Rolls-Royce has a trusted, longstanding relationship with Finland and this opportunity will allows us to build upon that existing partnership. The Eurofighter offers Finland innovative and proven technology capability as well as the ability to create and sustain highly skilled jobs. We look forward to continuing to progress discussions with our Eurofighter consortium partners and respective governments.”
With a solid history of experience, credibility and technology development, the Eurofighter programme offers a proven record of support to customers across the globe in fulfilling their combat air requirements. It is already in operational service with Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, Austria, Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with almost 500 aircraft in service across Europe alone. Kuwait and Qatar are also due to start operations with the Typhoon next year.
The Eurofighter Typhoon option would allow us to build upon this experience and enable Finnish Defence Forces to have independent operation of EJ200 in-country, creating new skills and jobs. In the UK, selection of the Eurofighter would also support the creation and sustainment of over 8,000 skilled engineering and technology jobs. The EJ200 engine is a collaborative engine that combines the expertise of Rolls-Royce, MTU, Avio and ITP under the EUROJET consortium. The EJ200 brings operational availability and readiness to customers. It’s an engine that’s proven to deliver; combining power, precision and performance.
With proven global capability, the EJ200 boasts over 1.3 million flying hours and more than 1,200 engines delivered to customers across Europe, US and other international markets.
In addition to our aviation products, Rolls-Royce is also offering Finland with the power that matters to reach their net zero ambitions. Through the development of microgrids – small-scale power networks – we are further developing our relationship with Finland to offer cleaner solutions that will enable them to build a greener future.
