How our MTU gensets enable global data flow

Uninterrupted power supply is a fundamentally important part of running a data centre. Servers need to be available 24/7 so power must be available continuously.

Today, many of the major online companies already put their trust in Rolls-Royce, through our MTU solutions, to provide emergency power to safeguard global internet traffic.

We also provide 24/7 power generation system monitoring and comprehensive on-site service conducted by experienced technicians.

Our complete MTU energy system solutions are based on emergency diesel generator sets. In the event of a power failure, the engines achieve full electrical output within 10 to 15 seconds, helping maintain a constant supply of reliable power. Several thousand MTU generator sets ensure the power supply of data centres all around the world.

Emergency power for the data centre of internet service provider Sinnet in Beijing

Ten 20-cylinder MTU Series 4000 engines are the basis of the emergency power system of a data centre operated by internet service provider Sinnet in the eastern district of Beijing. The emergency gensets are designed to ensure that Sinnet’s data will not stop flowing even in the event of a power failure. They ensure continuous power supply within seconds.

Sinnet operates a total of eight data centres at the highest technical level. The company has 1,220 server cabinets on an area of over 11,000 square metres, which have to be protected in the event of power failure.

Andreas Görtz, Vice President Power Generation Business at Rolls-Royce, explains: “Rolls-Royce is one of the few suppliers worldwide whose expertise and product quality in emergency diesel engines has made it one of the preferred partners for operators of large and system-critical data centres.”
