Supporting our fleet growth

In recent years we have been open about our long-held ambitions to grow our fleet.

Over the past decade we proudly reached our goal to achieve 50 per cent market share of engines in-service, or on order, for widebodied aircraft. As a result, our engine fleet is forecast to grow from more than 4,000 today to approximately 6,500 in the mid-term – and even further beyond that.

A growing CareNetwork

With a higher number of engines flying, and an increasing number reaching stages of flight maturity, we know that demand for maintenance and overhaul services will increase.

Our planned response is to pivot the long-term focus of our business towards managing the aftermarket potential of our fleet of widebody aircraft engines. This brings with it a planned expansion to our global CareNetwork of engine overhaul services.

To expand our capacity we will build on our ongoing investment in the UK, our Derby site will become an engine overhaul Centre of Excellence, capable of overhauling the new engine types in our fleet. Our team in Derby is already developing new overhaul techniques and will provide training to our wider network. We are also continuing to invest in our overhaul facilities in Bristol and Inchinnan to enhance their capacity to undertake overhauls of our Trent 700 engines.

In Germany, part of the Rolls-Royce Deutschland site in Dahlewitz is set to transition into an overhaul services hub with the capability of handling widebody engine overhauls. While in Canada, our Rolls-Royce Canada site in Montreal, which currently services business jet engines, will be repurposed to become a widebody engine overhaul facility.

Capable, competitive and increasing capacity in line with our growing market share

Expanding capacity in our network of service facilities follows previous announcements on increasing provision for engine overhaul through our growing number of Authorised Maintenance Centres at Delta Tech Ops, Sanad Aerotech and Standard Aero.

This expansion of our network of engine overhaul facilities also underpins our commitment addressing of in-service challenges with the Trent 1000 and reducing impact to customers who are affected.

As more and more new Rolls-Royce engines enter service with airlines around the world our service network aims to add capacity and capability to ensure that our engines receive cost-effective, swift overhauls and repairs whenever required.
