Overview
Building on a presence in Germany that dates back more than 125 years, today we employ over 10,000 people and are present with our Civil Aerospace, Defence and Power Systems divisions.
Rolls-Royce Power Systems, headquartered in Friedrichshafen, is a world leader for large reciprocating engines, propulsion systems and distributed energy systems. RRPS’s core brand, MTU Friedrichshafen, is a leading supplier of high-speed engines and propulsion systems for ships, for heavy land, rail and defence vehicles, and the oil and gas industry. We have also facilities in Augsburg (Assembly of Gas Generator Sets), Ruhstorf (Assembly of Diesel Generator Sets), Magdeburg (Remanufacturing facility), Überlingen (Production site for series 1600 engines) and Hamburg (Sales & Service office for Germany).
In Aerospace, Rolls-Royce Deutschland, headquartered in Dahlewitz with 2.400 employees, is Germany's only fully certified engine manufacturer with complete systems capability for civil and military jet engines. The company is certified for the development, assembly, testing, monitoring and maintenance of our engines. Dahlewitz is also home to an overhaul line for the Trent 1000 as well as a number of test facilities for large engines or the Power Gearbox for the Rolls-Royce UltraFan engine.
In Oberursel we have is a state-of-the-art manufacturing site for high-tech rotating parts and the Rolls-Royce Centre of Excellence for blisks and turbine discs.
The N3 Engine Overhaul Services in Arnstadt is unique in Europe for their capacity to overhaul the Rolls-Royce Trent family. This joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Lufthansa employs over 1,000 people.
Rolls-Royce engines power a wide range of commercial aircraft for a number of German airlines, predominantly with flag carrier Lufthansa.
Rolls-Royce powers combat jets, transporter aircraft, and helicopters in the German Air Force, including the EJ200 on the Eurofighter Typhoon, the RB199 on the Tornado, the TP400 on the A400M Atlas transporter, and the AE2100 on the C-130J. The German Air Force with its Federal Government’s VIP long-haul transport fleet is also operating several Rolls-Royce-powered A350-900s and Bombardier Global 5000s.
Rolls-Royce is working in partnership with Liebherr-Aerospace, through the Aerospace Transmission Technologies joint venture, to develop manufacturing capability and capacity for the new power gearbox which will be a vital enabler of our next generation of aero engines. We spend nearly €2 billion a year with over 1,000 German suppliers throughout the country.
To maintain our unique, innovative edge, we have four University Technology Centres with German universities. Moreover, Rolls-Royce Deutschland participates in various government-funded research programmes, which results in new cutting-edge R&D, supports SME suppliers, and strengthens RRD’s existing complete systems capability for civil and military jet engines.
