Generating a new vision for the future: we believe that investment in research, technology and development is an investment in all our futures, which will contribute to the sustained growth of the UK economy. This is where we’re building the future of flight with our pioneering Advance and UltraFan technology, setting new standards in aero engineering.

In 2016 we invested £806m in research, technology and development in the UK.
We have built seven variations of the world-leading Trent aero engine family in the UK since the launch of our first Trent engine over two decades ago. This is also where we’re building the future of flight with our Advance and UltraFan technology, pioneering innovations that are setting new benchmarks in efficiency, environmental performance and precision engineering.
Working with academic partners at our University Technology Centres and through the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centres across the UK places us at the forefront of innovation, equipping us with the key tools we need to conduct early-stage research for our future products. Which makes it easy to see why we have filed more patent applications with the European Patent Office than any other UK company.
