私は将来エンジニアになり、世の中の課題をロボットを使って解決していきたいと思っています。自分の将来に「世界」という選択肢を入れた初めての経験となったのが、2018年ロールス・ロイスのシンガポール工場の見学でした。その前年の2017年、わたしはロールス・ロイスが実施する3日間のサマーサイエンスキャンプに参加しました。サマーキャンプで学んだ流体力学や、ジェットエンジンの仕組みは当時中学1年だった私にとって、刺激が大きく、学ぶ楽しさで溢れていました。仲間と考え開発したホバークラフトは失敗しても失敗しても諦めずに挑戦する経験ができました。

そして、この経験を通じて今後の人生において最も重要になってくる、私なりの「ものづくりの原点」を発見することが出来ました。それは、純粋な「わくわく」した気持ちです。「わくわく」という気持ちは、私たちを動かす原動力にも、そしてより良いものを開発する力にもつながります。今後どのようなプロジェクトを進めていくにしても、成功すること以上に困難な事が沢山出てくるでしょう。しかし、そのようなときにも困難をよりプラスに変えていけるよう、あの時体感した「わくわく感」は忘れずに生きていきたいです。

I would like to be a robotics engineer in the future and shape the world by addressing problems with my robots. I visited the Rolls-Royce Seletar campus in Singapore in 2018 after joining the 3-day Rolls-Royce Summer Camp in 2017, and this visit opened the door to my future. The lectures on fluid-dynamics and jet engines at the science camp were full of inspiration and excitement, and we made a hovercraft through a trial and error process as a team, learning how important it is to keep on trying and not give up.

These precious experiences helped me to discover what of manufacturing means to me: a feeling of pure excitement. I believe that excitement is a strong driver which brings power and the motivation to create good products. I am sure that I will face more challenges than success on the way, but will try not to forget the feeling of excitement from the Rolls-Royce Science Camp and the Singapore plant tour so that I can turn those challenges into positive outcomes.
