Commenting on the disruption being caused to All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) domestic schedule as a result of the requirement for increased inspections and maintenance on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines that power ANA’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, Chris Cholerton, Rolls-Royce, President – Civil Aerospace, said:
“On behalf of Rolls-Royce, and my colleagues around the world, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the great inconvenience currently being experienced by ANA and their passengers as a result of disruption caused by inspecting our Trent 1000 engines. We continue to work very closely with ANA to minimize this disruption and it remains our absolute priority to return the ANA fleet to full service as soon as possible.
“The work we are currently undertaking is a regime of inspections and, where necessary, maintenance to address a durability issue within the engine. All the measures that we and ANA are taking have been agreed with Boeing and the regulators to ensure the continued safe operation of the engines.
“We fully recognize the impact such flight delays and cancellations may have on passengers and the reputation of an airline and we thank ANA for their continued understanding and co-operation. While we remain focused on minimizing disruption over this holiday period we are also committed to entirely eliminating the issue as soon as possible and are now in the final stages of testing redesigned parts this year to enable the introduction of a permanent solution for ANA and all other Trent 1000 customers.”
