The Trent 700 is the first engine in the highly successful Trent family. It has established itself as the engine of choice on the A330 with over 58 per cent market share.
Since Cathay Pacific launched it in March 1995 the Trent 700 has logged over 35 million hours in service and accumulates over 450,000 service hours every month.
The Trent 700 delivers the power requirements for all weights of the A330 and in particular, for the higher weight aircraft operating in harsh environments. This has been demonstrated with over 70 per cent of A330 operations in the Middle East powered by the Trent 700. With the highest in-service thrust of 72,000 lb, the Trent 700 provides the best take-off performance and revenue-earning potential for operators of the A330. The engine was designed for growth capability of the A330 and incorporates materials capable of the pressures and temperatures required for 75,000lb.
The unique three-shaft design of the RB211 Trent family means that it has fewer stages than competitor engines, giving lower maintenance costs, lower weight and better performance retention. The Trent 700 was the first in service engine to feature the 2nd generation wide chord fan blade. This blade is super-plastically formed and diffusion bonded, giving better protection from foreign object damage and also contributes to lower maintenance costs and lower noise. The engine with the highest time on-wing has completed 34744 hours without a shop visit.
Trent 700 fuel efficiency was improved with the introduction of the Trent 772B rating and through continuous improvement was further enhanced in 2009 by the introduction of the Trent 700EP, which includes a series of modifications inspired by the later members of the Trent engine family, delivering a reduced fuel burn of over 1% . We plan to introduce further fuel burn improvements from 2016. Combined with superior performance retention the engine achieves the lowest life cycle fuel burn on the A330, further reducing operating costs and delivering the best value for operators of the A330 aircraft.
With the lowest lifecycle fuel burn, the lowest cumulative emissions and the lowest noise levels the Trent 700 has the best environmental performance of any engine on the A330. This is further demonstrated by the achievement of certification to CAEP8 emissions regulations, the only engine on the A330 to achieve this.
