The Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications Initiative (AAWA) project, led by Rolls-Royce, introduced the project’s first commercial ship operators: ferry operator Finferries and dry bulk cargo carriers ESL Shipping Oy. The announcement came at a conference presenting the findings of the initiative’s first year of research at Helsinki’s Finlandia Hall last week.

The Rolls-Royce led Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications Initiative (AAWA) project unveiled a vision of how remote and autonomous shipping will become a reality, changing the nature of the shipping industry. The project’s first year findings were presented at a conference at Helsinki’s Finlandia Hall last week.

Following the announcement on 12 February 2016 that Lewis Booth would stand down as Senior Independent Director once a successor had been identified, Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Sir Kevin Smith as Senior Independent Director. This appointment will take effect after the Annual General Meeting on 5 May 2016, and Lewis Booth will continue in role until then. Lewis will continue as a Non–Executive Director and chairman of the Audit Committee.

The Norwegian shipbuilding company Kleven has announced a contract for one fishing stern trawler to be designed and equipped by Rolls-Royce. The fishing vessel has been ordered by the Spanish company Pesquera Ancora S.L.U.

Rolls-Royce has agreed a new £79 million contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to provide support for the Adour engines which power Hawk jet trainer aircraft, including those flown by the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team - the Red Arrows.
