The Trent 900 programme

Launched in 2001, the programme has proved to be one of the most successful ever undertaken. Every major target set has been met or bettered, on time and to budget. This is a testament to the organisational and engineering skill of the Trent 900 team at Rolls-Royce.

First Trent 900 ran on time in March 2003
Engine certification on time in October 2004
First A380 flight in April 2005
Delivered to first customer in October 2007

Environmentally friendly

Care for the environment is the major driving force behind the design of the latest Rolls-Royce engines, and the Trent 900 is an exceptionally environmentally friendly engine.
It is the world’s cleanest high-thrust engine, with emissions well below all current and proposed legislations, generating only 40% of the CO2 per passenger kilometre of an average family car.
Despite its size and power it is extremely quiet, meaning that the Airbus A380 has only around one third of the noise level of previous 150 seat aircraft.

Maturity at Entry Into Service

The Trent 900 have had the most extensive Flight Test programme ever. 4 out of 5 test Aircraft are Trent 900 powered, allowing the engines to accumulate over 18,000 flying hours, equivalent to 70 times around the globe!
For the last year, in the test phase, the engines have been treated as if they were already in service. This has given the technical support and operations teams’ time to learn about the engine and to support it in operation, even spending two months on the flight-testing line at Airbus in Toulouse to ensure a complete knowledge.
