What opportunities does a career in STEM offer?

STEM forms the basis of almost everything in this era of Industry 4.0, digitization, Artificial Intelligence. A broad spectrum of STEM career options is empowering individuals and offering opportunities to meet their full potential. It also provides opportunities to always be one with the world, to be at the forefront of technologies that are transforming today and creating ‘tomorrow.’

What are the challenges/stereotypes that you overcame in your career?

I have faced challenges like those faced by every other woman mechanical engineer. From “Why mechanical?” to “what about your marriage plans?” and “girls cannot work on the shop floor.”

At the beginning of my career, as the only woman member, I challenged myself to find my place in the team. Clear focus and hard work helped me to stand out and break many of the above-mentioned stereotypes. We cannot just wait to be empowered. We empower ourselves.

What advice would you give to young aspiring girls?

Believe in yourself, fly high, and you will land confidently wherever you wish to. Nurture the qualities you already have and be open to cultivate new. Be bold.
