Innovating electric power and propulsion systems for the Urban and Regional Air Mobility markets

Rolls-Royce’s Advanced Air Mobility team has over 350 employees based in Cottbus, Dahlewitz and Munich in Germany and Budapest. In Hungary a strong team of 100 people is working on the development of sustainable electrical technology for the power and propulsion solutions of tomorrow.

Today, we are taking our proven technologies from research to product development, aiming to become the leading supplier for the Advanced Air Mobility market.

Our systems under design feature the latest power electronics and electric machine technology to deliver the highest performance and safety. They are designed for platform adaptability and can be combined with a variety of energy sources such as batteries, fuel cells or turbogenerator systems. Our advanced prototyping and test labs are aerospace certified and have been specially modified to the requirements of our differentiated technology.

Our offering

Our portfolio features differentiated technology and is enhanced by a data-driven service offering to create the highest performance over the entire lifecycle. Our competences include the design, manufacturing, and testing of innovative Electric Propulsion Units (EPU) for the Urban Air Mobility and Regional Air Mobility markets and Power Distribution Systems for Advanced Air Mobility market.

We have successfully tested technology demonstrators for all of our portfolio elements in our labs and are already working on the next iterations integrating our learnings. We are actively working with customers to adapt our technology to market requirements and as next step are planning to deliver hardware to support customer aircraft demonstrations early next year.

Complementing our own labs, we have access to several external test facilities and co-own the Budapest University of Technology and Economics FIEK Modular Hybrid Electric Drivetrain Lab.
