Creating a space where everyone belongs

Creating a space where everyone belongs

This week, we're celebrating Inclusion Week at Rolls-Royce, both globally and as part of National Inclusion Week in the UK. It's a time to highlight the importance of inclusion and take action to create workplaces where everyone feels they belong.

At Rolls-Royce, we're committed to embedding diversity, inclusion and belonging into every aspect of our work. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming and equitable environment where every individual feels valued. Over the past few years, we've made significant strides toward this goal through our recruitment practices and by fostering inclusivity both inside and outside the company.

Zainab Kidwai, our Inclusion Champion, has been collaborating with teams across the business to organise a range of events throughout the week.

“As someone from a diverse background who’s lived in many countries and cultures, I've often been in the minority, but I've learned that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. When given the chance to drive diversity, inclusion and belonging at Rolls-Royce, I leapt at the chance, with full support from my colleagues. Weeks like this are so important because fostering new interactions helps make Rolls-Royce more inclusive and boosts employee well-being. Many here are passionate about building an inclusive workplace, and we're seeing real progress, with increasing participation in our initiatives each year.”

Activities and highlights

This year's theme for National Inclusion Week in the UK is “Impact Matters” which encourages us to better understand how inclusion affects marginalised groups and how we can measure this to create better outcomes.

To mark the occasion, we’re hosting two exciting global events for all our employees. One of these is the “Big Lunch” which will take place across all our locations throughout the week, giving colleagues the chance to enjoy a meal together.

To wrap up the week, a group of our senior leaders will join our “Curiosity Panel”. This event provides a safe space for everyone in the company to ask questions – either openly or anonymously – about diversity, inclusion and belonging, as well as any challenges they may be facing.

“As a single parent, finding an understanding and flexible employer was my top priority when I joined Rolls-Royce. During my interview, they emphasised a commitment to helping everyone be at their best, and in my three years here, they’ve stayed true to that promise. This support has allowed me to navigate the balance between parenthood and work while focusing on advancing my career. I also hope that as a People Partner and possibly a future representative for our Families and Carers Alliance, I can be a voice or soundboard for other carers across the business.”

Why impact matters

We know that creating a truly inclusive environment requires ongoing effort. That's why, in addition to hosting events, we’ll be assessing the impact of our inclusion initiatives to ensure we continue improving and breaking down barriers to engagement.

By continuing these efforts, we’re committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels they truly belong.
