Icebreaking

Another area where UT-Design is shaping the future is icebreaking offshore vessels. Expanding oil and gas exploration and production in northern latitudes will require support vessels that can operate in ice and in harsh climates.

A range of designs has been produced for this purpose. These are not dedicated icebreakers: they are platform supply vessel (PSV), anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS) and escort tugs that are efficient for their offshore support roles while having extremely good ice-going capabilities.

Three examples of the UT 758 ICE icebreaking platform supply vessel are currently being built.
