Environment protection

While offshore service vessels are the main market for UT-Design, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) management is a growth area. This term covers a range of activities as governments recognise the need to do more to police and protect their countries' coastal and offshore assets and environment.

Under the general umbrella of coastguard vessels, UT-Design works closely with navies, agencies and commercial ship owners to develop vessel designs and equipment tailor-made to suit specific requirements.

For example, the UT 512 K/V Harstad now in service with the Norwegian Coastguard can combine policing, surveillance, fishery protection, emergency towing and pollution prevention duties and is manned by a part naval, part civilian, crew. The UT 515 Abeille Bourbon will act as a salvage tug and pollution prevention vessel to protect the French coastline against oil spills. It will be joined later this year by a sister ship. Vessels of UT-Design are currently under construction for the Indian Navy and the Spanish authority SASEMAR, while others are at the design stage.
