The ship's current owners have had it operating in a number of
places: in the North Sea and north Atlantic, in the Middle East
and off the coast of West Africa. From December 2000 until March
2005 the ship was in service with the British Ministry of Defence
in the Falkland Islands.
"The machinery has proved both strong and stable, which is
particularly important when operating in remote areas such as this,"
says Paul Gasser, technical director of Seabulk Offshore, who explains
that the ship has been modified and refitted a number of times.
"A key improvement was the installation of a fire-extinguishing
system. The ship is also equipped to assist during various kinds
of rescue operations, with lifeboats and an extra bow thrusters,"
he adds.
The ship's next major inspection will be in December 2009. Paul
Gasser thinks that Seabulk Condor still has some useful years
left in her. "In today's market I think it is possible to get
good contracts for her, particularly in view of the equipment improvements
that have been made on board. But the fleet is being renewed and
Seabulk Condor will eventually be phased out." he concludes.
