Although Island Offshore is a comparatively young company, it has been successful in introducing new techniques to the offshore industry, as well as building the first examples of several innovative UT-Designs.

The UT 737 L Island Frontier has enabled well intervention to be carried out from a vessel instead of a rig or platform. Its first well intervention campaign was completed during the spring of 2005, involving replacement of a down-hole safety valve on the Strathspey field.

The ship has also been engaged in a totally different type of operation - trenching for the Ormen Lange gas pipeline using its topside equipment to transport high pressure seawater through drill string to the trenching tools at the sea bed. This demonstrates the flexibility of the design concept.
