Vision & strategy

Vision

Rolls-Royce operates globally, producing integrated power system solutions. We understand the need to develop our business on a responsible basis and we fully embrace the principles of sustainable development.

The company operates via a published Global Code of Business Ethics. We are committed to a programme of continual improvement in our own production activities, as we seek to be world class in all aspects of health, safety and environment management. We also recognise the social responsibilities that come with being a major employer, neighbour and partner as we conduct our business around the world.

We understand that the economic development necessary to drive social improvement is dependent on the provision of clean, reliable and affordable energy and transport systems. Furthermore, the threat of climate change and other environmental challenges calls for a rapid transformation on how energy is produced and used.

We have a deep understanding of the challenges, a long standing commitment to research and development and a strong track record of innovation. These capabilities can be harnessed to develop more sustainable power and propulsion system solutions.

Group strategy

Rolls-Royce has grown consistently over the last 20 years through the disciplined application of a consistent business strategy. The company produces advanced power systems for use on land, at sea and in the air. The company operates in four long-term markets, civil and defence aerospace, marine and energy. Over the next 20 years we anticipate the total business opportunity available to the company in these markets to be in excess of US$2 trillion.

The business strategy continues to be:

  • Address four global markets
  • Invest in technology, infrastructure and capability
  • Develop a competitive portfolio of products and services
  • Grow market share and our installed product base
  • Add value for customers through the provision of product-related services.

More information on the Group’s strategy can be found in our Annual Report.

Environment strategy

As society’s demand for energy grows and the understanding of the environmental impact of energy production improves, we recognise the urgent need to meet these requirements in a more sustainable way. As such, the company follows a strategy for the environment comprising the following three core elements:

  • Maintain our drive to reduce the environmental impact of all our business activities
  • Further reduce the environmental impact of our products
  • Develop entirely new low emission and renewable energy products.
