Working with communities

Rolls-Royce has a long-standing and successful commitment to support its local communities and we have processes in place to manage the impact of our operations. We aim to maximise the positive aspects such as job creation and community investment, whilst preventing and mitigating the negative impacts such as noise and dust.

Rolls-Royce, like any good neighbour, recognises the value of effectively liaising with its neighbours. This is particularly true when it proposes to build, operate or undertake demolition activities within a given locality. The usual scale of such activities makes it particularly important to do this well, and in good time, to allow effective consultation. We aim to:

  • Communicate effectively with the local community, listen to points raised and respond to any concerns
  • Protect or enhance the quality of life of our neighbours
  • Be recognised as an asset within the community
  • Be seen as an employer of choice
  • Maintain our licence to operate
  • Protect our reputation

Community investment is an intrinsic part of the way we do business. It aims to:

  • aid the recruitment and retention of employees, especially by investing in the science skills we need;
  • engage employees, by encouraging a sense of loyalty, pride and motivation in our organisation;
  • develop professional and personal skills such as teamwork, leadership, adaptability and ethical behaviour; and
  • further develop our reputation, by building proactive and mutually beneficial relationships in the communities in which we operate.
