We've launched a global programme involving more than 50 sites in the review of our potentially hazardous processes. This aims to reduce the likelihood of major safety incidents.
One of the sites involved was our facility at Oakland, California. The site first completed a safety survey to understand how well it met company requirements. Using the results, four Hazardous Process Committees were formed covering the most high-risk operations at the site. The committees then tackled several safety priorities, including improving spray booths, training systems and completing a hazard and operability (HAZOP) study on a metal coating process.
A full site review then analysed processes and control measures, identifying additional recommendations for improvement. These improvements were then made within the given timeframe.
