It is vital for product quality that parts are completely clean before we carry out final inspection. But getting a part clean is harder than you might think. Even grease from clean hands can be a problem With halogenated solvents like trichloroethylene being phased-out through the REACH regulation authorisation process, we are re-thinking our approach.
We already clean parts using water and detergent where we can and, if that doesn't work, we use non-halogenated solvents. If the non-halogenated solvents won't get it clean and we do have to use our current halogenated solvents, we insist on using special equipment to be safe.
We plan to phase out halogenated solvents and we've been proactive in finding and testing alternatives. We tell our suppliers to do the same.
