We are committed to building positive relationships within the communities where we operate. Our community investment and education outreach programmes support our company strategy and help ensure our continued success.
We recognise that talented engineers are the key to our future. We actively work with schools and universities to increase interest and encourage diversity amongst those taking Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
We have set ourselves a target to reach 6 million people through our Rolls-Royce STEM education programme and activities by 2020.
Globally we have over 1,000 Rolls-Royce STEM ambassadors who are actively involved in education programmes and activities. We work actively to encourage diversity.
Alongside STEM, we focus our community support particularly on:
- Environmental activities, aligned to our environment strategy
- Social investment, with the intention of making a positive contribution wherever we are in the world
- Arts, culture and heritage, to contribute to the cultural vibrancy to the communities where we operate
In 2014, our total community contribution was £10.6 million. This represents a 31 per cent increase since 2013. This includes charitable contributions, sponsorships, and over 140,000 hours in employee time, increased from 80,000 hours in 2013.
We also support our employees in their own charitable activities, including enabling tax-free donations through payroll to their chosen charities in the UK and North Americas.
