Dow Jones sustainability index

Rolls-Royce has retained its position in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the eighth consecutive year. In the Aerospace and Defence Sector, our overall score was 79 per cent (the best score) compared with an average of 49 per cent. The following table provides a summary of our position across the economic, environmental and social dimensions.

We scored 100 per cent for environmental reporting, operational eco-efficiency, product impact and occupational health and safety.

Business in the community

The BitC Corporate Responsibility index assesses the extent to which corporate responsibility strategy is integrated within organisations business practices. It is a benchmark for companies management practices and their performance. In 2009, Rolls-Royce retained its Gold status with an overall score of 93 per cent and 96 per cent for the environmental component.

Carbon disclosure project

Every year, a growing number of organisations report their green house gas emissions and climate change strategies to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). For the second year running we have been included within the CDP’s FTSE350 Leadership Index, in recognition of a “professional approach to corporate governance in respect of climate change disclosure practices”.
