Rolls-Royce has been active in Singapore’s marine industry for more than 30 years, and in 2009 relocated its global headquarters for the Marine business to Singapore in recognition of the increasing importance of the Asia Pacific markets, with over 80 per cent of global commercial shipbuilding taking place in Asia.

The Marine headquarters has global responsibility for business development, marketing and corporate services and brings the Group closer to an important and growing customer base. The Global Headquarters for Marine Services and the regional headquarters for the Commercial Marine business – covering Asia, the Middle East, India and Australia – were already in Singapore.

The operation also houses one of Rolls-Royce’s global repair and overhaul service centres. Rolls-Royce stands out as well for being the only company to offer an expanded OEM warranty.

A ship design office, which carries out work for offshore supply vessels, merchant, tugs, over 35 UT design vessels and specialist naval sectors in Asia, was established in Singapore in 1999. The office also offers conversion and modification of offshore vessels. Linked to the global design centre in Norway, the Asia centre creates customer-specific turnkey solutions locally.

Rolls-Royce is the global leader in marine power systems and is building upon its existing expertise, and range of products and services. There are four operating units:

• Propulsion
• Engines
• Deck machinery
• Marine technology and global support

In 2012, Rolls-Royce opened its state-of-the-art Marine training facility within the Regional Training Centre at the new Seletar Campus. The training facility is equipped with two cutting-edge simulator domes that can be used for Icon DP systems, as well as Towcon control systems for anchor handling winches and is similar to the Ålesund training centre but on a smaller scale, with equipment matched to the Rolls-Royce equipment operating in the region.

Customers in the Singapore marine sector include Jaya Holdings, Keppel Offshore, Neptune Orient Line, PSA Marine, Republic of Singapore Navy, ST Marine, PaxOcean and Swire Pacific Offshore.
