To drive down ownership costs the need for accurate
up-to-date information on the performance and health
of equipment is vital.
Savings result from calculations to determine the remaining
equipment life, so maintenance decisions are based on
how the equipment is used and performing, rather than
the pessimistic methods based on running hours.
Predictive maintenance features:
- Maintenance decisions based on actual and historical
data
- Extended time between maintenance periods
- Maintenance only undertaken when necessary
- Lower ownership costs
- Trends can be identified and corrected early
By understanding how the equipment is operating and
applying historical product performance data Rolls-Royce
can extend maintenance intervals while maintaining ship
safety.
Currently data is stored on-board and regularly transferred
to shore for Rolls-Royce analysis, although the facility
exists for real-time transfer. Where fleet wide data
is collected, fleet performance and maintenance issues
can be identified and addressed before they become significant
problems.
Rolls-Royce has successfully retro-fitted Equipment
Health Monitoring (EHM) systems on some of its mature
products and EHM is an option on some current generation
equipment.
