We are evaluating future technologies aimed at improving the performance of our aerospace, marine and land-based power systems.
Creating entirely new systems, with radically different approaches to the environment, involves technology development in many areas - some of which can be exploited using existing skills and others which demand entirely new areas of expertise.
These novel developments all present significant risks and uncertainties, both technical and commercial, and not all will be successful. We also have to assess these risks against other potential business opportunities and Group affordability.
Our experience and skills in complex systems integration, collaborative research and partnering will help us manage the development process effectively. We are establishing new capabilities in areas such as renewable energy systems and novel power systems designs.
We are one of the founding partners of the UK Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) with BP, Shell, EoN, EDF and Caterpillar. In partnership with the UK Government, ETI aims to address critical issues and opportunities in reducing the environmental impact of power generation and transport. The knowledge gained from ETI's programmes will be applied across the world.
