Rolls-Royce in the U.S.

Rolls-Royce has become a leading industry supplier in the U.S. with a significant and growing presence. More Rolls-Royce products are built in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world.

For over 100 years, Rolls-Royce has had a presence in the US. From the opening of its first U.S. office in 1906, the company has evolved into the industry leader it is today.

The company’s regional headquarters for Rolls-Royce North America Inc. is in Reston, Virginia, and it provides management direction and corporate support for all Rolls-Royce businesses and operations in the region, which encompasses more than 7,700 employees at 68 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

The company supports a wide range of customers in the region including civil and military aircraft manufacturers; commercial airlines;  corporate and regional operators;  public utilities; independent power producers; nuclear power plants; pipeline operators; and ,on-and-off short oil producers, to name a few.

The U.S. is home to several of the company's global businesses including Rolls-Royce Energy Systems Inc. in Ohio, Defense North America and LibertyWorks™, in Indiana; Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Inc. in Massachusetts; Rolls-Royce Engine Services - Oakland in California; and Optimized Systems & Solutions LLC, in Virginia.

Rolls-Royce capabilities in the region cover: research and development;  design;  engineering;  advanced manufacturing of engines and components; assembly; test; repair and overhaul of gas turbine engines and components;  marine propulsion and shoplift systems;  oil and gas pipeline pumping and power generation packages, nuclear services,  and other duties performed at 14 principal facilities across the U.S. and Canada. The company's largest manufacturing site for gas turbine engines outside the United Kingdom is in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Recent growth or expansion announcements includes:

• Rolls-Royce Crosspointe is building a second, $136 million advanced manufacturing facility alongside its current Rotatives factory in Prince George County, Virginia.  An Advanced Airfoil Machining Facility (AAMF), will be built in 2013 and, when fully operational in late 2014, create 140 new, highly skilled jobs.
• Rolls-Royce Indianapolis operations are building out a new $42 million advanced manufacturing facility to produce engine components for Rolls-Royce engines that are assembled around the world.  When it is fully operational in 2014, it is expected to create more than 100 jobs.
• The Rolls-Royce Outdoor Jet Engine Testing Facility, located on NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi is developing a second jet engine test stand, representing an investment of at $50 million and will create 35 new jobs.  Originally opened in 2007, this site is one of three such Rolls-Royce test sites in the world, and it conducts specialized development engine testing including noise, crosswind, thrust reverse, cyclic and endurance testing on all current Rolls-Royce engine types.
• In early 2013, Rolls-Royce announced it acquired PKMJ Technical Services, a 200 employee nuclear engineering services firm near Pittsburgh, Pa.  This acquisition further accelerates growth for Rolls-Royce in the important nuclear services market.
