Rolls-Royce engines power aircraft in all of the major military aviation market sectors, from military transport aircraft and helicopters, to trainers and combat aircraft. The company has been chosen on important new defence programmes such as Europe’s Eurofighter Typhoon, the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), the Global Hawk unmanned air vehicle (UAV) and one of the world’s most modern helicopters the NH90. Other business highlights include:

  • Number one military aero engine manufacturer in Europe
  • Number two military aero engine manufacturer in the world
  • Powering approximately 25 per cent of the world’s installed military fleet of aircraft.

Rolls-Royce also has a strong presence in the defence sector, with over 1000 military engines in service in the region. The Royal Saudi Air Force operates the Tornado, Hawk C-130 and Typhoon aircraft. The Egyptian Air Force has Commando helicopters powered by the Gnome and C-130s powered by the T56.

In Bahrain the latest variation of the Adour Engine, the Mk951 extends the long and successful presence of the Adour family of engines in the Middle East, powering the Jaguar and Hawk aircraft of four air forces in the region.

The RTM322 helicopter engine, which has proved itself very capable of operating in hot conditions, has become the engine of choice for the NH90 multi-role helicopter. More than 90 per cent of NH90 customers, including Oman, have selected this engine. Both the RTM322 and Adour engines a result of the the Rolls-Royce Turbomeca joint venture.

The Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC) T800 is operating in Oman where it powers the fleet of Super Lynx 300 helicopters. The advanced capability of the engine has brought performance improvements in a harsh operating environment.
