Rolls-Royce success in aerospace is based on the company’s wide product portfolio and the strength of its gas turbine technology. Highlights of the business include:
Within the civil aerospace sector, the Rolls-Royce Trent family of engines has achieved a high level of success with a range of Middle East and North Africa airlines, such as Qatar, Gulf Air, Saudi Arabian, Egyptair, Middle East Airlines (MEA) Yemenia, Emirates and Etihad.
The Trent 700 has almost 80% market share in Middle East with eight out of the nine A330 operators in the Middle East selecting the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine.
Six operators in the Middle East have ordered A350XWB aircraft, where the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB is the only engine currently available.
Recently, Gulf Air selected Trent 700s for 20 additional A330s at Paris Air Show 2009. The order included the Rolls-Royce TotalCare® aftercare services package Qatar Airways selected Trent XWB orders for 80 A350XWB aircraft in 2007 and announced four Trent 500s for their A340s at Farnborough 2008, including Totalcare®. The first commercial passenger flight fuelled by Gas to Liquid, powered by Trent 500 engines, took place on 12 October 2009. In addition, Qatar Airways announced it would use the V2500 engines to power a total of 20 Airbus A320 and four A321 aircraft at Paris 2009. The contract includes a long-term service agreement.
Emirates Airlines selected the Trent XWB for up to 120 A350XWB at the Dubai Air Show 2007. The order also included TotalCare®. Emirates also operate 29 A330 (Trent 700); 21 Boeing 777s (Trent 800) and 10 A340 (Trent 500).
Etihad has selected the Trent XWB for 25 A350s, the Trent 700 for a total of 24 A330s, and the Trent 500 for 11 A340s, all with TotalCare®.
Kuwait-based Aviation Lease and Finance Co, has 12 A350XWB/Trent XWB and Oman Air took delivery of first Trent 700 powered A330 in September 2009.
At Farnborough 2008 Rolls-Royce announced with Mubadala that it would create an On-Wing Care Centre with Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies.
Rolls-Royce is also a senior shareholder within IAE International Aero Engines AG, which supplies the V2500 engine for the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 as well as the Boeing MD-90. The V2500 has been selected by a growing number of Middle East operators including EgyptAir, Kharafi, Mahan Air, MEA, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, Saudi Arabian and SyrianAir.
