Our extensive product base and experience in both ship design and propulsion and power systems integration, enables us to provide systems solutions or contribute to system selection, the interfacing of the propulsion system and equipment to the ship structure, ship services, auxiliary systems and ancillaries for both commercial and naval vessels - an approach well proven by Rolls-Royce with offshore vessel owners.
This means the right products are brought together so the propulsion and ancillary systems fully match the ship owner's operating requirements. Operational support is also simplified - as there is a single point of contact for service and spares.
In July 2008 we strengthened our capabilities in diesel electric and hybrid propulsion systems with the acquisition of Scandinavian Electric Holding, now the Power Electric Systems business unit of Rolls-Royce located in Bergen.
30,000dwt fallpipe self-unloading bulk carrier - for Van Oord and Jebsens Ship Mgmt. Rolls-Royce is supplying the complete twin-screw propulsion system, manoeuvring aids, control system switchboards and automation, as well as an integrated bridge and navigation system. Two Bergen 32:40L8P engines turn Kamewa CP propellers through 3000AGHC gearboxes. DP2 Dynamic positioning is maintained by two 2,200kW vertically retractable azimuth thrusters and three 1,500kW tunnel thrusters. Low-pressure deck machinery is also part of the package.
45,000dwt transporter vessels - for Suzlon Energy. Rolls-Royce is supplying the propulsion system that comprises two 4,500kW Bergen engines, CP propellers and shaftlines including gearboxes, flap rudders and steering gear, a single tunnel thruster, high-pressure deck machinery, generator sets, integrated bridge, switchboards and automation.
132.8m LNG-powered roro/cargo vessels - for Sea-Cargo AS. Rolls-Royce is supplying a comprehensive system. The Bergen B35:4012PG main engine turns a single Kamewa CP propeller and shaft generator through a reduction gear. Tunnel thrusters, flap rudder and steering gear, automation and an LNG fuel storage and handling system complete the package.
