Conventional spade rudders


Types CB, CM and CS

This range of Rolls-Royce rudders are built as full spade rudders with three different standard profiles to ensure optimal manoeuvrability for passenger and cargo vessels and high-speed craft.

Type CB: Designed for lower speeds

A bulbous profile and large vane end plates improve low speed manoeuvrability. It shares the same profile as the FB flap rudder and is typically used for offshore supply, cargo, fishing and seismic vessels.

Type CM: Designed for medium speeds

The profile is optimised to provide good manoeuvrability with propulsive efficiency, with a tapered or rectangular blade. It has the same profile as the FM flap rudder and – with the FS – meets the rudder needs of passenger and cargo vessels, as well as high-speed craft.

CM rudder for medium speed. Medium profile optimises the proportion between manoeuvrability and propulsive efficiency. Tapered or rectangular blade.

 

 

Type CS: Designed for higher speeds

The slim profile increases overall propulsive efficiency and reduces cavitation risk. The blade is tapered with rounded corners. It has the same profile as the FS flap rudder.

1) Lift coefficient is dimensionless with mean propeller slipstream velocity. 2) Equal aspect-, taper- and thickness- ratio. 3) Rudder height equal to propeller diameter. 4) Rudder are placed in the propeller centre line. 5) Rudders are without vane end plates.
