Rolls-Royce is one of the world's leading manufacturers of azimuth thrusters. The propeller rotates 360 degrees around the vertical axis so that the thruster can perform both the propulsion and steering duties for a vessel, or positioning for a semi-submersible rig, drillship or FPSO.
The standard US series covers powers from 255 - 3,700Kw and the larger UUC series 3.000 – 6,500kW.
The Contaz® azimuth thruster range with contra-rotating propellers is specifically designed for merchant vessels and offers improved propulsion efficiencies of around 10-15% over conventional azimuth thrusters.
The Azipull is a low drag, highly efficient pulling thruster that provides both steering and propulsion. It is designed for continous service speed ut to 24 knots, while maintaining excellent manoeuvrability.
A robust, heavy-duty L-drive azimuth thruster specifically designed for extended and reliable operation on offshore rigs and drillships.
This azimuth thruster range pivots up into a housing in the hull and therefore does not protrude from keel. They are available in powers from 736 to 3,000kW and FP or CP propellers can be specified.
The retractable range uses components from the Rolls-Royce standard range and is designed to retract into the hull when not in use, reducing the vessel’s drag.
