Azimuth thrusters

Rolls-Royce is one of the world's leading manufacturers of azimuth thrusters. The propeller rotates 360 degrees around the vertical axis so that the thruster can perform both the propulsion and steering duties for a vessel, or positioning for a semi-submersible rig, drillship or FPSO.

AzipullAzipull thrusters

Azipull is the newest azimuth thrusters in the Rolls-Royce range and is a low drag, highly efficient pulling thrusters suitable for powers from 900 – 5,000kW.

ContazContaz thrusters

The Contaz® azimuth thruster range with contra-rotating propellers is specifically designed for merchant vessels and offers improved propulsion efficiencies of around 10-15 per cent over conventional azimuth thrusters

Open DuctedOpen/ducted thrusters

The standard Rolls-Royce US range comprises seven standard Z-drive units with input powers from 330-3,050kW and a bollard pull ranging from 11-99 tons.

Swing up Swing-up & combi thrusters

This azimuth thruster range pivots up into a housing in the hull and therefore does not protrude from keel.

RetractableVertically retractable azimuth thrusters

The eight sizes in the retractable range covers powers from 280 - 3,000kW and uses components from the Rolls-Royce standard range.

Azimuthing underwater mountable thrusterAzimuthing underwater mountable thrusters

The range of Rolls-Royce underwater mountable thrusters are designed for easy underwater mounting and dismantling without dry-docking the application.

Simple and robust construction delivers high reliability with ease of maintenance for cost effective operation. The standard US series covers powers from 280 - 3,050kW and the larger underwater mountable/demountable UUC series 2,700 - 6,500kW. Ranges of retractable, swing-up and pulling thrusters are also available.
